HALA: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Faheem, who passed away in Karachi on Saturday morning, was laid to rest in his home town Hala in the evening.
He was buried at the shrine of Makhdoom Noah after Asr prayers beside the grave of Makhdoom Talib-ul-Maula.
Expressing deep sorrow of the demise of Faheem, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced a day of mourning at party level across the country.
Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, a large number of PPP workers and leaders of other political parties attended the funeral prayers of Amin Fahim. Former president and PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari, who is staying in Dubai, couldn’t make it to Hala to attend the funeral. He, however, expressed profound grief over the demise of Amin Faheem.
Fahim was battling blood cancer for quite some time and was shifted to Karachi from abroad after his condition aggravated.
When his own party stepped into power corridors as a result of 2008 general elections, he was kept at bay from the premiership. But, he maintained his resigned silence, as according to him, he did not want to be called a PPP’s renegade.
He became a member of the Parliament for the first time in 1970. He acted as commerce minister in the previous era of the PPP.-Samaa/APP
