KARACHI: Four Rangers soldiers were martyred on Friday in an ambush on the paramilitary’s troops in Karachi, Samaa reported.

According to our correspondent, the attack took place in city’s Baldia Town locality where a patrolling vehicle carrying Rangers came under fire by motorcycle-riding armed men.

A senior police official confirmed the attack, adding that at least four gunmen on three bikes targeted the soldiers who were performing security duties outside a local mosque.

He said four Rangers men sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

The dead were yet to be identified. Police and Rangers cordoned off the area to track down the attackers.

Baldia Town is one of Karachi’s localities plagued by criminals and militants of banned outfits.

Speaking to media persons at the scene, Director General Rangers Maj. Gen. Bilal Akbar, said the attacker wanted to target the mosque “but our soldier foiled their designs.”

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, meanwhile, condemned the attack and expressed sorrow over martyrdom of paramilitary soldiers. – Samaa
