KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim passed away at the age of 76 at a local hospital in Karachi in early hours of on Saturday.
A leader of Sarwari Jamaat Bachal Mughal confirmed his death.
The Chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians was suffering from blood cancer. He fought his disease at a London hospital, where doctors declared him terminally ill.
On this, the spiritual figure of the Sarwari Jama’at wished to pass the last days of his life in homeland. Accordingly, he was shifted to a hospital in Karachi on October 26.
He was currently working as senior vice-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party.
Speaking to SAMAA, Bilawal House spokesman Aijaz Durrani expressed grief over the sad demise and said the PPP was founded in Hala—a Sindh city where Amin Fahim was born on August 4, 1939.
Durrani said his death is a great loss for the country as well as for People’s Party.
According to sources, Makhdoom Amin Fahim’s body will be brought to Hala where he will be buried near the grave of Makhdoom Talib-ul-Maula.
Former President Pervez Musharraf offered him to assume premiership following 2002 general elections; however, he turned it down.
He was again offered that his son might be raised as chief minister; but, he rubbished it as well.
When his own party stepped into power corridors as a result of 2008 general elections, he was kept at bay from the premiership. But, he maintained his resigned silence, as according to him, he did not want to be called a PPP’s renegade.
He became a member of the Parliament for the first time in 1970. He acted as commerce minister in the previous era of the PPP.
No one could defeat him in his stronghold Hala to this day. –SAMAA
