PTI calls for holding LG polls under army supervision

LAHORE: Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Thursday demanded the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold forthcoming local government (LG) elections under supervision of Pakistan Army and Rangers.

“Considering the bloodshed by PML-N, we expect and demand deployment of military and rangers personnel in sensitive polling stations during local government elections,” the PTI chairman said while addressing a press conference.

He also differentiated performance of his party-led coalition government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with the PML-N’s Punjab government in a last-ditch effort to persuade voters ahead of local government elections beginning from October 31.

In Punjab, Imran alleged common man is being targeted and abused by police.

He said even political opponents are being killed in the largest province of the county.

“The way our workers are being killed, it would create chaos in the country,” the PTI chairman added.

Imran said there is no provincial finance commission in Punjab as it exists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that funds and decisions would remain with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

He said that the Ehtisab Commission is nabbing corrupt officials in KP, while even the killers in Punjab are still at large.

“Even father of Abid Sher Ali claimed that 17 people in the province were killed on orders of Rana Sanaullah,” Imran said, adding that Sanaullah should have been put behind the bars but instead he was made Punjab law minister. –Samaa
