Nine Pakistanis martyred in Mina stampede, 316 missing


ISLAMABAD: The number of Pakistani Hajj pilgrim martyred in Friday’s stampede in Mina has mounted to nine, as government authorities issued details of the deceased and injured, Samaa reported Saturday.


According to latest reports, nine Hajj pilgrims were martyred and 17 others injured in the incident.


The deceased include Hafsa Shoaib, Zarin Naseem, Syeda Narjis Shahnaz, Bibi Zainab, Mahmood Arshad, Rasheedan Bibi, Zahid Gul, Dr. Ameer Ali Lashari and Makhdoomzada Syed Asad Murtaza Gillani.


Seventeen Pakistani Hajj pilgrims received injuries during the tragedy and of these ten have been discharged from hospitals and others are receiving treatment either in Mina ul Wadi Hospital or Mina Dispensary No. 5.

316 Pakistani pilgrims are missing


Director General Hajj, Abu Akif said on Friday that 316 Pakistani pilgrims are missing since the Mina tragedy.


“Initially there was report of 402 missing Pakistanis; however, we managed to contact 86. Our doctors are present in morgues to get further details,” he said.


Akif said the Saudi government would soon make a final announcement about those martyred and injured during the stampede in Mina.


Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to utilize all resources for recovery and safe return of missing Pakistanis.


A PM House spokesman said that Pakistan’s Embassy and Hajj Directorate are making all out efforts to find out the missing Pakistani pilgrims. – Samaa/APP
